1. Are they insured?
Professional Organizers (PO) should have general liability insurance.
2. Do they have references, literature, web site?
Do your homework and make sure this is a legitimate business. They are entering into your home or business, handling your tangible assets and sensitive documents.
3. Do they have an area of expertise or are they a generalist?
Generalists are good for all-over home and office organizing. There are organizers who specialize in organizing: closets, garages, basements, offices, etc.... Events: estate sales/garage sales, or computers, bookkeeping, interior design etc.
4. How do they bill you?
Some organizers expect a retainer fee depending on the size of the job. Most expect to be paid after every session, others will send an invoice at the end of the project.
5. Do they provide hands-on guidance or coaching?
Depending on your preference, it is important to know prior to starting.
